How Our Team Unwinds: The Importance of Switching Off

Work can be busy, fast-paced and sometimes a little chaotic. It’s easy to stay in “work mode” long after the laptop closes, which is why unwinding is so important.
Taking time to switch off helps reduce stress, improve focus and prevent burnout. It gives your mind the space to reset so you can come back to work feeling clearer and more energised. The key thing to remember is that unwinding looks different for everyone. What helps one person relax might not work for someone else and that’s completely normal.
For this week’s Wellness Wednesday, we asked our team a simple question: “How do you unwind?”
Paulina
For Paulina, unwinding is all about relaxation and recharging. Spa time, saunas and the recovery room help her reset after a busy day. And of course, spending time with her dogs is always part of the routine.

Sharon
Sharon enjoys a mix of activity and learning. Swimming is a favourite way to unwind, especially if it’s raining. Outside of that, she enjoys reading about history, particularly English history, and biographies about music icons like Dave Grohl and Cher.
Joel
Joel prefers quieter downtime. Reading or listening to audiobooks is a favourite, particularly biographies and origin stories. At the moment he’s getting the inside scoop on Randy “Macho Man” Savage's. He also enjoys TV (though he’s selective about what he watches) and, like many of us, a good meme can always get a laugh.
Sarah
Sarah keeps it simple. For her, switching off means reading, the more mindless the better. Sometimes the best way to unwind is to give your brain a break from thinking too hard.
Tahnia
Music is a big part of how Tahnia relaxes. Listening to music, playing games and spending time with her dog are all go-to ways to wind down after work.

Finding What Works for You
There’s no “correct” way to unwind. Some people prefer movement, others prefer quiet time, and many enjoy a mix of both. The important thing is finding something that helps you step away from work and recharge.
Whether it’s reading a few pages of a book, taking a swim, playing a game, or simply spending time with your dog, those small moments of downtime can make a big difference to your overall wellbeing.
