Keeping QLD Moving: New Bruce Highway Tenders Incoming

The pipeline of work on Queensland's Bruce Highway continues to grow, with 52 new tenders set to be released between mid-2026 and mid-2027 as part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program.

The upcoming release includes 40 construction packages and 12 design tenders, creating significant opportunities for contractors, consultants and the wider civil infrastructure workforce.

The new tenders will support a range of safety-focused upgrades, including:

• More than 200km of wide centre line treatments

• 100km of pavement strengthening

• Five new overtaking lanes

• 13 intersection upgrades

• Two new rest areas

• Replacement of three narrow bridges in Far North Queensland

These projects build on works already underway, with completed upgrades at Bauple and flood resilience improvements near Tully demonstrating the program is already delivering tangible improvements to safety and network reliability.

Importantly, the 52 tenders are only part of the forward pipeline. A broader program of works is also expected to come to market over the next 12 months, including:

• Nine additional overtaking lanes

• More than 300km of wide centre line treatments

• More than 145km of pavement strengthening

• 23 intersection upgrades

• Two new rest areas near Kolonga

• Replacement of eight narrow bridges between Ayr, Townsville, Ingham and Innisfail

With procurement continuing through dedicated delivery panels and projects being staged across multiple regions, the program offers a steady pipeline of opportunities for contractors, engineers, project managers, supervisors and skilled site personnel.

The Bruce Highway is Queensland's most important transport corridor, connecting communities from Gympie to Cairns while supporting freight, tourism and regional economies.
